Unloading & Shaking Out Miscellaneous Steel
- Use a Crane and /or Forklift when unloading Miscellaneous Steel.(most cases a forklift is best)
- Make sure that the lay-down is a firm area, properly graded, well drained and accessible and out of the way of erection activities.
- Place the miscellaneous steel in a way that allows forklift to get to the miscellaneous steel pile from 2 sides if possible, leaving enough room between items to get forks under the miscellaneous steel when it is needed.
- Have ironworkers make stacks of desired amount of miscellaneous steel needed for the different areas and doing so before the crane is waiting to fly the miscellaneous steel up.

Shaking out Miscellaneous Steel – bring miscellaneous steel within reach of crane with forklift as it is needed. Have ironworkers make stacks of desired amount of miscellaneous steel needed for the different areas and doing so before the crane is waiting to fly the miscellaneous steel up.
IE… stacks of perimeter angle 5 to 8 pieces per stack etc….
